Roundtable on Low Carbon Pathways Exploration in Housing and Construction
2022-08-26

Last Friday, on August 26, 2022, the Roundtable on Low Carbon Pathways Exploration in Housing and Construction achieved successful fruition in the "Unicorn" conference room within the Tengfei Building. This roundtable, conceptualized by TOMAKERS JL Consultancy and supported by Impact Hub Shanghai, saw the participation of 8 experts and teams specializing in photovoltaic glass, smart construction, BIM+AR data visualization, LEED for green buildings, as well as representatives from real estate investment and tech-transfer centers, engaging in a closed-door meeting.
The roundtable was structured into three main segments. It commenced with TOMAKERS JL providing a brief overview of the discussion's context, highlighting the technology commercialization bottlenecks in the housing and construction industry. Subsequently, an open discussion unfolded among the participants, allowing them to freely exchange insights regarding the development obstacles encountered within their respective domains. Finally, Impact Hub Shanghai shared case studies showcasing their work toward building decarbonization.

The roundtable serves as an effort to establish multifaceted collaborative innovation among interconnected enterprises within the same industry.
In the context of the new economy, innovation plays a pivotal role, often driven by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). There's an increasing need for evaluating innovation outcomes, emphasizing the significance of market-driven assessment mechanisms that prioritize consumer satisfaction, societal well-being, and environmental preservation. Shifting the focus from quantity to the quality of research, original value, and practical contributions is paramount.
Specifically within the building and construction industry, a comprehensive understanding of the sector's pain points is crucial for technology practitioners, business leaders, designers, builders, and material suppliers. Understanding and addressing these challenges aim to narrow the gap between various industry sectors, especially in the complex lifecycle of technology transfer and commercialization.
This research-oriented roundtable aims to facilitate economic and social benefit realization by aligning the entire business and technological innovation chain within the housing and construction industry. It seeks to study how distinct professions function and collaborate within the same business framework to promote healthy ecological development and elevate the overall economic proposition. These roundtable discussions are intended to forge new connections between industry needs, technological advancements, and policy planning.
Throughout the meeting, experts expressed positivity towards the conference's objectives, desiring more opportunities for multidisciplinary discussions among multiple stakeholders. Post-discussion, various technology-based company representatives actively shared recent research outcomes and products, engaging in in-depth conversations with other participants. The conference concluded successfully following these exchanges.
